Having recently invested in an ultra high definition inspection microscope, we now have the capability to conduct macro examinations. Macro examination is a technique for evaluating steel products such as bars, billets, blooms and forgings. As well as evaluating cross sections of welded material.
Macro Examinations of cross sections of welded material, is a procedure in which specimens are polished, etched and evaluated macro-structurally at low magnifications. During the examination, defects such as lack of side wall fusion, porosity, lack of weld penetration, slag and poor weld profile can be assessed for compliance with the relevant specification.
